Penalty kick sinks Martin County girls in regional final loss


VIERA– Viera soared into the state semifinal thanks to a 2nd-fifty percent penalty kick by Morgan Brubaker to knock off Martin County 1- in the Area 2-6A championship match.

In the very first half defenses on both of those sides held their grounds and created it tough to score. 

The Tigers looked as if they have been heading to rating first after Mia Calderon took a shot at the aim, but the ball rolled on alongside the objective line and Viera goalie Elizabeth Gathercole was ready to recover the ball in advance of it broke the plane. 

Viera got on the board just 44 seconds into the 2nd 50 % when a foul was identified as in the box. Brubaker stepped up to just take to the penalty kick and identified the back of the net.
